Culture Inc.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide preteens and teens a safe and nurturing place to be after school. Culture Inc. is committed to do everything in it’s power to provide Des Moines youth with the tools and support needed to become positive, productive, adult leaders. Culture Inc. wants to close the gap and support school systems that are experiencing budget cuts for fine arts programsming. Culture Inc. believes success will come through providing creative outlet, unleashing artistic potential, building confidence through accomplishments, and exposure to cultural diversity;though song, dance, and art.

Our Target Market is intelligent, talented, and motivated kids, who due to circumstances beyond their control are one or two bad decisions away from heading down the wrong path. At Culture Inc. We believe this describes all kids, no matter their background, upbringing, race, religion, ethnicity. To build strong adults our youth must be taught to respect themselves, respect others, respect hard work and follow through, respect the power of teamwork, respect the opportunities in networking, shared information, information technology, and creative endeavors. We want to teach respect for leadership and the required skills needed to become a leader. Culture Inc. believes in building productive relationships between different cultures, and promotes  positive and professional presentation of self for all participants.

Culture Inc. activities will include: music production, graphic design, art, dance, photography, filmmaking, poetry and drama. Culture Inc. will raise funds in order to be able to provide participants with facilities, supplies, computers, programs, and equipment that will keep them excited and motivated to create. Parental and community and volunteer involvement based on the following 5 principles will be essential.

  • Visioning, Research, Goal-Setting, Project planning and Management skills are key for successful out comes
  • Exposure to and acceptance of Cultural Diversity for youth is enriching and essential for productive adulthood

Core participants will be drop in youth who have decided to take on a long term project and work with a team of participants.

Examples of long term projects:

  • Create a CD
  • Create a Public Service Announcement
  • Create a portfolio
  • Create a website
  • Create unique literature and get published
  • Create a unique performance and perform for public

Each project will have the following processes involved for completion:

  • Research
  • Project Planning
  • Project management
  • Team building /Team work
  • Creativity
  • Project Completion
